30 Days of Write

Alright- June 1st. This blog has been up and running for almost 4 months. I’ve posted around 35 pieces in that time. Better progress than the last 20 years (with a count of… oh, say… 0!) I’m enjoying the writing. I’ve figured some things out related to my creative process. I’m emotionally invested in this process. (If you’re interested in the story of my journey to unlock my creative side, check out the posts in my “Open Notebook” category…)

I’m happy about where I’m at- but I’m not at a point where writing is something I do every day- or even every other day. I feel fulfilled and content when I’m working on something (or have just completed it) but I’m not spending enough of my time on this thing that is clearly a priority for me. So- what do I do now?

…I give myself a writing challenge. Here it is:

  • I will post every day in the month of June.
  • Also, by the end of the month I will have Story Blue, aka The Third String, in a readable state.

I assume that over the course of the month I’ll produce some really substantive posts as well as some lighter ones. At this point I think I’ll wait to post any more of Story Blue until it’s complete. But I will let you know how it’s going!

If I’ve set up my blog’s widgets correctly, you should see a timer counting down to the end of June to the right of the main content. Apparently the best motivation for me is the threat of public embarrassment. So be it! I hope you stick with me as I try to make this writing a part of my everyday life.

I’ve got some skin in the game at this point- so what about you? Anything in my journey that might speak to something you’re aspiring to? Can you challenge yourself to complete some goal? Please- comment and share!

p.s. My wife really hates my constant movie references… anyone amused by the ones I’ve sprinkled throughout my posts? Is this really just a guy thing?
