The Words Must Flow!

A reminder from Muad'Dib

“We call that one MOOSER!”

Thanks Matta for the encouragement!

(I’m working on getting Matta to start posting his comics. They’re funny and worth sharing!)

Back in the Saddle Again

Soooooo- I haven’t written or posted in a few weeks. The ‘why’ is not important but I think the ‘what now’ is. I’ve begun this process of pursuing something important to me and engaging my creativity. It’s been fulfilling and interesting (to me at least) so what do I do when I get offtrack?

After a lot of thought on this topic over the last couple of weeks, I’ve realized something important. When your progress gets interrupted, the most important thing to focus on is getting the work restarted. That’s it. I recognize that this is one of those ‘Duh’ statements but stick with me for a moment.

Trying Something New

We’ll see how my jokes (all 4 of them!) go in the “News from the Interwebz” post goes. (Did you read it? No? Go ahead- I’ll wait here…)

I woke around 1 AM and had some thoughts that turned into that post. This could be a revolutionary new concept- a satirical review of news headlines! Next up, I plan to start a talk show, like Sally Jesse Raphael and Phil Donohue have, but instead of morning or afternoon- I’ll be on late at night. I’ll have a band, I’ll do a funny speech to open each show using a review of current events, I’ll have comedians and interesting people on, etc. I think I’m really onto something here…

Seriously, I’ve embraced this process and that includes putting myself out there. If my jokes fall flat, I’ll try something else. But I’ve already spent too much time being afraid of failing at this. I’m going to write, reflect, and continue. If you’re trying to transform yourself, hang onto your courage throughout your journey. You’ve got to expect a few missteps. The important thing is that you keep moving forward.

Excelsior!

We’re Getting the Band Back Together!

[Note: Before we commence our regularly scheduled program, let’s have a quick status update. I wrote 220 words for Story Blue tonight after putting the boys down to bed. Wrote 100 words today? Check.]

I had occasion to revisit some “Glory Days” type memories last weekend. I went to check out half of a former band in their new project. (Check them out.) Back in the day, two of these guys- Bryan, the singer, and Todd, the drummer- were bandmates in the appropriate-for-the-90’s-titled “Humble Ego”. I played bass in a most excellent fashion. 🙂

I was the last member to join the group. Todd and Bryan had known each other for years- likewise for Bryan and Brian, the guitar player. (Here’s his music. Enjoy!) My joining the band seemed to be the fulfillment of some unholy prophecy- Bryan and Brian, Todd and Todd. Bizarre.

So I found myself last Friday night in a little hole in the wall place in Auburn, NY, listening to some old bandmates rock out. I never shared exactly the same musical tastes but dug the fact that they were still playing. It got me thinking about my own journey and how I’m pursuing what’s important to me.
